On Aug. 23, 1918, a pair of mute swans was released in the Avon River. They were a gift, handed over to the city by a man named J. C. Garden who came to Stratford from Battle Creek, Mich. to work for the Grand Trunk railway shops. Read more about local swans and ducks on The City of Stratford website.
